Our Game Jam has two themes. What are these themes? What do I do with a theme? Why tf is the theme so vague? are all questions we will be answering using this section.

Our two themes are:

These are themes you should attempt to design you games around. The themes may inspire the art style, game mechanics, or the story of your game. It’s up to you how you use them.

Important: You don’t have to use both themes. Using both won’t necessarily get you greater points.

The themes are intentionally vague. We do not want to limit your creativity at all. Just think of the first game that comes to mind when you think of either of these concepts, and start coding (and searching for some art).

Some prompts to get your started on how you could use the themes:

To get a better idea of some art matching this theme, have a look at the basic resources that we have provided in the resources section. You do not have to use the resources that we have provided. But if you would not like to focus on searching for digital assets, but more on the game itself, feel free to use the resource.zip ’s (provided in the resources page) sprites, and backgrounds.

Note that theme suitability is very subjective. Part of how well your game matches the theme will be attributed to our first impressions, the rest, however, will be based on how well you justify this in your description (and perhaps your promotional video, see the ‘rules and submissions page’). This includes if you have used our resources. Just because we have given you the resources, does not necessarily convince us that they match the theme ( :) ). The theme logos are above. We hope they inspire.

They are a bit blurry because they were designed to be used in the games, should that be something you’d like to do (This png/sprite is in the resources.zip file located in the resources section).
